Trapani
is also known like the city of salt and of sailing. It is the
chief town of the homonym province and it has 70.638 inhabitants.
So it is the fifth sicilian urban area for the number of inhabitants.
In the time the city developed a flourishing economyc activity
linked to extraction and commerce of salt, thanks to its natural
position, on the Mediterranean, and to its famous port, that
formerly was a commercial opening for the famous Erix (today
Erice), situated on the mount that dominate Trapani. Other flourishing
activities was - and are also today - fishing (in the old day
tunny fishing, with the slaughter), quarrying and business of
marble, coral manufacture. Today the main economyc actyvities
are: tertiary, fishing, commerce and tourism.
